School Declines Book Donation.

A school in Eldoret North Constituency rejected books worth more than Ksh.30,000 donated by Education Assistant minister, Ayiecho Olweny. Prof Olweny, on a tour of the constituency, was to donate the textbooks to Komba-eran Primary School but the institution’s management committee rejected the offer claiming that it was aimed at undermining area MP, William Ruto.

The assistant minister decided to donate the books to the neighbouring Kenduywa Primary School.
“It is unfortunate that some leaders don’t want some of us who are associated with Raila in this constituency,” the Muhoroni MP said at Kenduywa Primary after handing over the books to the school’s management committee chairman, Justus Kosgey…

I want to believe that Kenya has come of age, but politics is out to kill her future. If a government minister can take books to a school and the school’s committee reject them on grounds that the offer undermines the area MP, it leaves me asking myself who the end losers are. Is it the MP or the pupils of that school? I honestly don’t think that was wise of them, as their neighbours took the offer. Politics MUST be separated from government mandate, and for textbooks worth that money, and in a poor school, somebody failed the future generation. But the sad fact is they will not be the ones to feel the pinch, but the children themselves, and their parents. WHAT A SHAME!!!
